At the Lions FC, we offer an incredible way to enhance your child’s life through soccer. We invite you to see how you can promote fitness through soccer and help your child develop a healthy lifestyle - all in a fun and comfortable environment. Come and see how the Lions FC can help your child grow physically, emotionally, and mentally while learning how to play soccer.

The Lions FC helps children become not only better players, but better people as well. It's a progressive program, with multiple age-specific levels. Every child gets to play and the games are safe, exciting and fun. We encourage fair play, positive competition, and sportsmanship. We match children in groups that are not only similar in age, but have similar abilities as well. No matter what your child’s age or ability, the Lions have a program suitable for all.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I register for the Academy?
Send an email to Michele Helgren. Use the link above.

Where can I get the registration and medical release forms?
Go to our Documents page for the required forms. Click on the tab at the top of this page.

What is an Academy program?
An Academy training program is provided for those players looking for greater skill development and who desire a more advanced level of training and play. The goal of the program is to develop the skills of each player in a team environment. An Academy training program will provide recreational players an easier transition into select programs.

Who can participate in the Academy program?
The training program is available to all U9 (under age 9) and U10 (under age 10) players who desire advanced skill development training by professional trainers.

Who will provide the training?
The training will be provided by LFC professional trainers administered by Peter Moore, LFC Director of Coaching. LFC trainer profiles can be viewed on the Coaches' page. Click on the tab at the top of this page.

When and where are the Academy teams' practices going to be held?
One and a half hour team practices will be scheduled twice a week at Lions Pride Park, next to the Schertz Soccer Complex in Schertz, TX. Optional practices for specific training, i.e. goalkeeper, will also be offered.

When will the Academy teams' training sessions begin?
A new season tentatively begins each August and January. Registration occurs two weeks prior, so please watch the web site.

How will the Academy teams be formed?
Players will be signed up on a first come, first served basis. Usually, the first week of training is used by the training staff as an evaluation period to determine team placement. If there are enough players to form multiple teams, the Alamo Area Youth Soccer Association (AAYSA) academy program league rules to equally distribute players of varying skills to determine team placement.

What is the game format for Academy matches?
Both U9 and U10 Academy teams will be composed of 6 players on the field, including the goalkeeper. Maximum team roster size is 10. The players will use a size #4 ball.

What teams will the LFC trained Academy teams play against?
LFC trained Academy teams will play against other AAYSA Academy teams. Teams will also participate in soccer tournaments with an Academy league component. Entry fees into the tournaments are the responsibility of the Academy team parents.

Where will the Academy teams' matches be played?
All team home matches will be held at Lions Pride Park, next to the Schertz Soccer Complex, in Schertz, TX. Away games will be played at the designated home field of the respective teams in the AAYSA Academy league.

Who will coach the Academy team in games and tournaments?
The Academy teams are coached by members of the Lions Futball Club staff of professional trainers.

What are the fees for the Academy program?
The fees for the 2011/2012 season are currently being determined. However, the fee will include registration, uniform (two jerseys: one home/one away, a pair of shorts, a pair of socks, and one practice jersey), professional training, and referee costs.

Who should I contact if I have additional questions?
Contact Michele Helgren, Academy Program Administrator. Use the link at the top of this page.
